Welcome “Doc Holiday”….
This will be an awesome trip! It's been a couple years since we've been to the McGrew trail. Let's GPS map it this year.

I uploaded a variety of past trip photos here: http://www.gitout.com/apics/mcgrew/
No, we've always driven one way. It drops down near hwy 101 on the coast in California. We've stayed at a campground (no services) on the river at the end of the trail. We should bring some maps. One of the roads was blocked on our last trip and we weren't able to get to the campground. Hopefully, that won't be an issue. We did find a great swimming hole tho! The water is amazing! So clean and clear.
We've driven back up hwy 101 and cut across to I5 from there. It's a nice drive. It would be fun to drive hwy 101 all the way… I've never done that before. Maybe stop at some beaches along the way? Hmm… That would be a fun day trip back.

thanks for putting the pics up… fun to look at. I'm going to be heading to Medford after the trip so I won't be able to drive up the coast. It's a great drive though… I have done it. Drove from Lincoln City down to Cresent City, CA along 101 once. Enjoyable drive.

Can you believe it's June already? The trip is coming up fast. I still need to get my tire holder built and possibly upgrade my steering.

This would be a good test. There is lots of road driving, some normal trail riding, and a rock section. It's got everything.

Yup! It will be good. The guy with the steering box hasn't replied to me. Maybe he changed his mind about selling it that cheap. Oh well…

Cool. More people!
The rear is probably your axle seal. They generally go out around 100k. Very inexpensive to replace but a bit messy… I'd recommend buying either from the dealer or possibly marlin (if he has one). Torque wrench is good for keeping your lugs in check. 75-80 ft lbs
I need to do some of that maintenance to my truck before the long drive. I need to check my front bearings too. Fun Fun

I just did the axle seal on the rear left maybe 10k miles ago… would suck to have to do it again. I don't think he was refering to the lug nuts being loose…maybe the axle is loose somehow? I need to lift it up and check it out.

Did you get aftermarket seals or factory? There seems to be a huge difference in quality. I'm not sure what would be “loose” up front? Unless it was steering related. Maybe the tie rod?

First post here.
I was cruising the web looking to see if there was an event at McGrew this weekend – I've been wanting to run it since I moved to Southern Oregon in September. Found your post. Can a noob join you?

I'm not partial to big groups on the trail, as they move too slow, but it looks like you guys are a fairly small group. I'd be happy to meet anyone before hand if that makes y'all more comfortable. I think I noticed some of you are coming from Portland? I'll be up there this weekend.
